Crazy Freaky Insects

There are some really crazy looking insects in this world. Some insects are just crazy looking, but they do some really interesting things as well. Have you ever wondered what the biggest, the smallest, the longest, the strongest, and the most incredible insects are? I have and so I decided to find out and write this article for you.

Let’s start with the biggest. Hands down the biggest insect, in terms of overall size, has got to be the Goliath beetle (see image below). This thing will literally fill up your entire hand if you were to hold it. They are usually black and white in color and are just creepy looking. These things live in the tropics of Africa and have known to be kept as pets. It’s also been rumored that some people actually feed them dog food!

Now what about the longest? The longest insect in the world, simply put, looks like a stick. In fact, it’s called the Borneo walking stick (see image below). If you were to stretch this crazy freaking insect all the way out, including its legs, it would be about 18 inches! That, my friends, is one long insect!

The strongest insect known to man is called the Hercules beetle (see image below). This thing can grow two inches longer than the Goliath beetle, but is not as big in width. However, when you’re talking about the most strength, the Hercules beetle can waste any other insect on earth. This amazing little creature can carry 850 times its own weight on its back! How’s that for strong!

When you think of the deadliest insect in the world, what do you think of? The Black Widow? The Brazillian Wandering Spider? The truth is that the deadliest insect, in terms of how many people die from it each year, is the plain and simple mosquito (see image below). The reason the mosquito is the deadliest insect in the world is because of the various diseases they spread. From yellow fever, to encephalitis, to malaria, to the West Nile Virus, these little freaky insects can do much more than make you itch!

Now how about the most beautiful…est? This one could be debated among people that find insects to be beautiful creatures (not me, I’m just trying to keep the pests under control). But there is one insect that does look just like a flower, an orchid to be exact. It’s called the Orchid mantis (see image below). It really is a neat looking little insect, because it kind of resembles an orchid. There are also other flower mantises, mantisi, mantisesses (whatever), like the African flower mantis (shown in picture above). I guess you could call that little creature beautiful-ish.

So, I hope you have enjoyed this display of the most “est” insects in this crazy world. It’s funny to me to see depictions of what aliens might look like when we have all these freaky looking insects that pretty much look like any alien depiction I’ve ever seen.
